Holi is regarded to be the cultural festivity of vibrancy, when we tend to forget about all the lamentable things and engross ourselves in ethnic celebrations of this miraculous feast. But this fiesta has its own dark past....... This golden gala was not so resplendent in the previous era.

The village of Kalagram had a dark and unilluminated atmosphere. Houses were painted white for the sake of visibility, people wore black clothes, and every other, thing, even the daily use utensils were pitch black and there was no end to such issues. Kalagram had never experienced the strength of daylight meaning to say that 'daytime' was a word that never existed there. Contrary to the name, villagers were kind-hearted and helpful. They were far away from evil intentions, and used to help each other even in the deplorable times. The words on street about the village were no less. Some imprudent and lunatic people had spread rumor's that this village was haunted by evil spirits, therefore it was named kalagram.

Unmindful of the fact that villagers were warm and generous, people put a stop in going into the village. Consequently, they used to think twice before going into the village and by no means they were ready to maintain a strong political, or any other economical and social bonding with them. It had each and every facility except for the fact that people themselves rejected it. Villagers were dejected and demoralized as they could do nothing to improve their image as other villages had put a ban on entry for them

One fine day, villagers heard a sturdy cry of an infant. It was coming from forest, the voice was loud enough to prove the pain that the infant was suffering from. Anxious and perturbed villagers headed towards the greenwood as fast as a flash. The arena that villagers saw was gruesome and frightening. The infant was lying hopeless and helpless on the foreground, his hands covered with blanket of blood and his screams clearly reflecting the pain and torture he was suffering from. It was clear that that he was going to receive the kiss of death. But the villagers, were somehow, not ready for it. One of the male members picked him up and rushed towards the hospital.

Other female members went home and prepared Dalia and other food delicacies that often attracted a child. After returning from treatment the infant was welcomed with delight and jubilation. His health was taken care of, other children used to play with him and the child even seemed to be on seventh heaven. He was fed with tempting and mouth watering fruits such as apples, mangoes and still more. Buffalo milk was his all-time favorite. As time passed, he became apple of their eyes. But villagers appeared to have a bunch of questions in their minds (where has the child come from, how did he end up in the forest, who are his parents, can he be a harm to the villagers) and the list never ended. The child grew up and became as fit as a fiddle. He used to help other villagers in daily tasks. He was well mannered, polish and refined child. He never used to complain about anything.

But there was something which was still camouflaged from the villagers. This could no longer be concealed. One of the villagers saw that the boy had some witchcraft powers that he used for their good. The object he touched, changed its color from black/white to spirited colors. On hearing the mysterious news about the boy, the villagers decided to observe his activities. The plan was a fail, as no one saw the boy practicing witchcraft powers.

It was a dark day as usual, villagers were doing the daily chores. Suddenly, out of nowhere a golden ray flashed in their eyes and Boy popped-up in front of them. This situation appeared like dropping of a bombshell for villagers. "Don't be shocked, I'm here to help you all" He re disguised himself from a little boy to a mythological god, golden chakra, sea blue eyes, four hands with weapons in each one and an exquisite dress. " I know you people are defamed and slandered just because you live in this village, but now people will not remember this village for its evil intention, but for its lively and high spirited atmosphere." This made the villagers even more amazed and anxious. "Who are you sir?" the villagers asked. Without uttering any words, he spoke out a magic spell and then happened the most beaming and glowing event. Black and white colors vanished and were replaced by red, blue, pink, yellow- colors of glory and happiness which filled the village with words of content.

The village became the most popular one among others, the talk of the town in a good way. People started establishing social and political relations, and tried to show off the beauty of village when higher dignitaries used to visit it. This is the power of vibrancy and spirituality of colors, which can make and break the bonds between people, village or any other objects.

Black and white are also symbolic of vibrancy which can transform a dull day into fun-filled one but the stereotypical thinking of people have changed and even affected the mentality of others a lot. So this Holi, capture your day with joyous and safe smile. Wishing you all a very happy and cautious Holi !!!
