Jessy has changed a lot commented her friend Shipra when they were strolling in the garden during the morning walk. All of them lived in the same society and were aware of the happenings in each others life. Jessy was a working woman with four children. Her husband was with a corporate office in a very senior position. Her life seemed to be a bed of roses to all and sundry. She lived in a well furnished house and roamed in a swanky car. But, her children and husband had always used Jessy as a punching bag ofcourse not literally or physically. She was the agony aunt to whoever needed her and whenever they needed her. Jessy was a lovely person that is what people said to her. She was very religious minded and God fearing. She was inspired by stories that spoke about philanthropy and social welfare.

Jessy was a very matured and overly sensitive person since childhood. She was caring towards her siblings, elders at home, her class mates in School too were aware that she would be a big help with academics etc. She used to help with completing their home works, class work etc. She would provide them with stationery whenever needed and the list continues . As told by her mother this incident is so amazing. Jessy's friend megha belonged to a middle class family. She used to lament about her family matters to Jessy and most of it made Jessy very sad. One day it so happened that megha got drenched in very heavy rainfall and by the time she reached her home with wet clothes she would feel sick so Jessy who stayed close to the School runs home during lunch break and comes back with her new expensive frock that her parents had bought for her upcoming birthday and asks megha to wear it and return it to her the next day. She even gets her warm clothes like a sweater and socks also. Such a nice gesture which would make megha happy and she would be thankful to her, Right? This is what normally happens. But, what happened next was unbelievable and horrible. Megha did not bother to return her dress to her, she did not acknowledge what Jessy did for her even with a thanks or any message of that sorts. Needless to say Jessy was punched again for being good and helpful. So, she continued to face many such experiences again and again well into adulthood and her middle age that is at present.

With such a background Jessy ended up becoming a sort of a recluse. She developed some neurological problems with progressing age. Did she follow the same routine? Yes ofcourse. Cause her priority of life was being available for her children, relatives, neighbours, acquaintance etc. As her health issues mounted it was time for her to visit a panel of doctors who prescribed some medicines which seemed to have brought some dramatic turn around in her behaviour and personality. She had not gone insane. She became more assertive and boisterous. Her children and husband were perplexed and anxious to know if she had been over dozed with the medicines.     Jessy gave a glimpse of her changed self during many such situations.

When her husband Richard came home one day late in the evening from his Office and announced that he would quit his job and start a small scale business along with his friend, Jessy very cooly heard everything and wished him good luck before going to her bedroom where she went to sleep. Richard was shocked with her behaviour. Jessy normally would not be cool and casual about such an important decision. Similarly when her Sarah said that she was not doing well in college and she might have to repeat the test again Jessy casually says to her to repeat the test provided she herself would have to pay the exam fees and work for it. When her younger daughter told her that two wheeler needed repair as she had lended it to her friend to use it and she had hit a dividier while driving on the wrong side of the road Jessy instantly asked her to get it repaired with her pocket money, if she had saved it and if she had no money left in her purse she would have to travel by a city bus or a metro rail until sufficient money was available with her for getting the repair done.

With these responses Jessy made her family members wonder brought such a change in her behaviour. When they gathered around her to find out what was going on in her mind Jessy spoke her mind out which was so amazing and correct.          Jessy started by saying that all these years she was happy with being a support system to everyone in her family and around her. She never felt that she had to take care of herself before it was late. Jessy continued to say that it took her a long time to realise that everyone should be responsible for their own life.

Her problems like insomnia, stress,  hallucination, anguish did not solve any of the problems that her near and dear ones faced instead these further created trouble in their she continued to say that she was in no way responsible for the action or reaction of others. Therefore she came to a conclusion that her duty was towards herself and that was to remain calm and composed and let others work out their own problems and solutions. She said that she tried getting solace by taking up Yoga, meditation, miracles, mental hygiene, neuro linguistic programme and finally realised in all of these programs there was a common underlying denomination that lead to the same destination. She even went on to say that she can only give the necessary advice and guidance and to follow it or not was upto the listeners. Each one of us are responsible for our own lives, actions and the corresponding results was the clinching statement of Jenny. She declared that she was no longer the receptacle of their responsibilities, the sack of their faults, the advocate for their mistakes, the wall of their lamentations, the depository of their duties. "From now on I declare all adults in the family as self-sufficient and independent adults. "this was the final announcement made by Jenny that changed the entire scenario in their home.

From then on every family member began to function better. Everyone realised that it is they who are directly and indirectly responsible for whatever good or bad happens in their lives and around them. Jessy had done her duty perfectly well and now it was the time for other members of the family to do so.
