You Just Went Away
You Just Went Away
You just went away,
Went away all fine,
In a quiet, hustled, discreet way,
It was all so clandestine
The day before you went away,
You seemed so happy,
Together we went a long way,
You even asked me for tea.
You sneaked out quite all right
You didn’t even give me a clue,
Had I the insight
I would have definitely stopped you.
I still remember the day,
It was all merry and gay,
But I knew not which way,
You have gone away
Even as I continue to write and sing,
I search for your face among the teeming millions,
I hope my books and songs tell you the way,
You hurt me when you went away.
