You were supposed to be there, I believe,

When you said, "Don't worry".

You were supposed to care, I guess,

When you said, " Am there".

You were supposed to love, "I assume".

When you said, " I love you".

You were supposed to stay, I thought,

When you said, "I'll be back".

But now, after ages of tireless waiting,

And centuries of self consolation,

I presume, you never meant any of them.

You never meant a single word,

That escaped your lips,

Or may be they just vanished with time:

Bits by bits, parts by parts,

Just like the cigarette.

And what was left behind were just the ashes,

Ashes of the past, half burnt and half to be.

For now, am just living with 'em:

The smoke of my hopes and aspirations,

And the false promises you made.

It engulfs me in, slowly, as it burns,

And made me the ash tray,

Just to contain them all, within.
