Wintry Hues

The whistling among the tree branches,

The trickling of the leaves on the road.

The wavering pattern formed by the swivelling tyres,

The tapering sight of the meandering road.

The warmth of early sunshine overwhelms the air,

The retreat of the Autumn; evident in the bareness of the trees.

Winter steps in discretely; the overnight fog engulfs the valley,

The moist damp air disappears with the piercing rays of sunshine.

The chirping of birds awakens the lazy souls from their slumber,

The scouting squirrel hops from one branch to another.

The domesticated are still under the warmth of their cattery,

Idling about the overnight firepit. 

Life moves on to accomplish the unfinished tasks of the day;

The harsh Winter has already knocked on the door.
