When Death Came Knocking

When Death Came Knocking

In the wee hours of the morning

Came the death knocking

This is a notice for twenty and four hours

Then will begin the journey for both of us.

I had waited for you this long

Look forward to the next destination where I belong

As usual, began the day with a leisurely jog

Waived and smiled as passers-by mile after mile

Sky with a little blue and the peeping sun

Golden hues light and bright and I enjoyed the last of my run.

Bloomers and guffaws as usual in the press

For a change, it didn't create any stress

Sensex up or down didn't matter

For it was the last day in the life of theatre.

For lunch, we chose the barbeque nation

Tomorrow I will travel to an unknown destination

Siesta followed by the usual cup of tea

The time was precisely three for tea.

Words buzzed and gushed in the mind

Last words of the poetry unassigned

It was a walk in the clouds I took

Only found cheer where ever I looked

Then it was time for the last supper

With salads, soup, and bread it was super

Then I bade goodnight to the family

With a song on my lips happily

Came the knock in the wee hours of the morning

Opened the door to find a courier delivering

The message from the death read

"I find you are living a life full of zest

For you, it was just a test

Continue to live your life the fullest

Here are my wishes all the best."

Then I realized that if I could live

The rest of my life

The way I lived yesterday

And die by the end of the day

With a song on the lips

Then death becomes a non- event

Just another passing moment.
