What Are We Chasing?

Lonely are the stars,

The Sun and the moon.

The mountains loom majestic,

Yet they stand on their own.

The cycle of birth and death,

Story of our lifetime.

Many souls touch our lives,

But in our journey, we walk alone.

We keep searching, but rarely find,

A shoulder, a companion, a soulmate.

Someone to only complete us,

A heart that could be our home.

Yet we wander in the crowd-

Shallow bonds, shared moments;

When the cold, dark night sets in,

To each crawl into our shell.

Wrapped in our blankets of loneliness,

Alone with our thoughts and wondering.

Our souls searching for something deep,

In a vast, shallow existence.

The day dawns and we march along-

To the tune of endless routine.

Muffle the emptiness in the sounds,

A mask to stifle the turbulence within.

Do we find our answers,

Touch the rainbow that we chase.

Or do we constantly keep running,

In pursuit of true happiness.

Perhaps one fine day the questions stop-

Without answers, or reasons!

We take a step back, drop the pace;

And learn to silently carry on.
