Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day

Buy these roses Sir,

You buy these for your Miss,

She will be quite happy,

And I will buy food;

For my six months old,

And she's quite sick.

Its Valentine's Day Sir,

Fresh roses, red roses;

Bought from the farmer today,

My six months old cut her hand,

Crawling in my dingy,

If that's what you call home, yesterday.

There was blood, lots of it;

Like the color of this rose.

I cradled her in my arms,

To ease her pain,

And held her very close.

You buy my flowers Sir,

Will give you six,

For ten rupees each,

The money I need,

Good money now,

To feed my family of six.

My ailing father,

Teenage sister,

Three children in a row,

My stomach too, feels hungry Sir;

These roses, your Valentine's Day roses Sir;

With these, I will buy food.

Perhaps a rose will I buy

A packet of Sandalwood incense sticks too

My wife, all of twenty six;

Was suffering from tuberculosis

Last year, all through.

She died last month Sir,

But life doesn't spare any,

It walks on, leaving no room,

For tears to many.

My valentine is gone,

You have yours still.

Buy these flowers for her now,

Make her happy and make it quick.

God forbid Sir.

What if, just what if;

Her, one day, like me

You will miss!
