To the Men in Brown
To the Men in Brown
Rattled to the clouds, as I traced the view
I don't see the man, who I once knew.
Followed me to the skies, now trapped behind doors
Have you worn darkness, or are my eyes closed?
Then from a distance a cheer emerged.
Was this a sound of joy or rain to my perch?
Flying through lanes, whose silence seemed to haunt,
As if an enemy waited, to quench his want.
I chased the sound, until I reached its home
This place had a light like embers turned from stones.
A warrior stood there, his head crowned of duty,
An armour not of steel, brown was its beauty.
He stood beside a lady, her hair white as snow,
Yet my eyes found in the two, the colors of a meadow
Life emerged from doors, as he greeted her with flowers
Her wrinkles gave a smile, one resembling the showers.
Her tears set like dew, on her winter face
His smile carried the words "Our country is safe."
Just then a plant showered its crown
And whispered to my feathers "To the man in brown"
And up I flew with his bestowal, in the sky's empire
"Grace his courage O Lily! My heart feels whose fire,
As I let it go, it performed a dance so neat
Rested a while on the shoulders, then gently slipped to his feet
And I smiled at the lily, which held my faith in disguise,
It had danced upon the shoulders where India resides.
