This Is Me
This Is Me
Yes this is me
Can you recognize me
The kid you once knew
The kid you abused
And abandoned
When I was quite young
Yes this is me
Do you recognize me
The kid who had nothing
No one to love me
No one cared for me
No one to call my own
No home to stay
No roof over my head
No friends to play
No food to eat
Yes this is me
The streets became my home
The beggars the vagrants
My only company
The rain and sun my roof
The moon my night light
The cold dirty pavement
Was my bed sometimes wet
Sometimes dry
The dustbin my kitchen
Might I add it was also portable kitchen
I had some nice food to
Take away was always ready
I even got soft drinks to
All for free in the trash
Sometimes I even got clothes to wear
And other nice stuff
That no one wanted anymore
But to me, it meant so much
And this made me happy
But that was then
Today I beg no more
But I am able to help others
I don't sleep on the dirty pavements
Where I once call home
I've built a home for many
I don't search the dustbin anymore
I have a huge kitchen
Where each day we cook and feed them all
But today I only
Came to say thank you
For the pain and the hardships I endured
Had it not been for that
I would not have known
What it felt like to be a beggar a vagrant
What it felt like to be poor
What it felt like to have nothing
What it felt like to have nobody
What loneliness felt like
What abuse felt like
All this made me humble
And more determined to be a better man
To become somebody someday
Today this is me
I educated myself
I got my dream job
I am able to help others
And make a better life for us all
Yes this is me
This is the person I am now
Do you remember me?
