The Twilight Years
The Twilight Years
This period in life everyone must pass
You have no choice, not even by chance
And like a tree sheds its frail yellow leaves
People care less for their elders, so it seems.
Some get tucked into senior living spaces
While others fret in silence but leave no traces
Masking their grief with a smile to brave it
They tend to live on, but in truth die in phases
You're caring, considering in your own little way
But end up being silly or annoying as they say
The days seem so long and the nights so grey
You'd rather be in solitude somewhere far away
Its no lack of respect or a conscious deflect
Just the way the world is, I think in retrospect
There's no one to blame although its a shame
At the end of your life, you may own just your name.
