The Tides of Love

The Tides of Love

I stared into the keyhole of a lifetime, to see what was beyond,

In a colorful kaleidoscope and multiple worlds,

Life is the keyhole through which we all look, and travel till we meet our maker,

It's been 25 years since we met,

a thorny crimson rose, grief, a deuce,

No one ever forgets their first day in love,

As a volunteer, I helped with the admission of new students to the university, it was interesting work, seeing new students, faces, new sources of inspiration, ready to chart the expectations of tomorrow,

That hot September morning, she had approached my desk, requesting intake forms,

Her beauty and fair complexion had turned me on, her deep voice had awakened the necromancers in my brain,

Her big brown eyes had glanced timidly into mine, my skies dropped that instant!

I was a senior at the university, and I had seen the angels, but seeing her that day reminded me that the beautiful ones appear last, like a ripe moon on a starry night,

The days turned into months as she played ping-pong with my sweet and gentle heart,

Some nights, I sat myself invisibly by the entrance to her Africa hall, hiding and waiting to see her angelic face,

Sometimes, I pretended to walk past her lecture rooms, just to watch her study, and whenever we met in the long halls of the Senate, I chatted for minutes.

After living as a university hermit for three years, my love search had ended,

On Valentine's Day, it dawned on me that I had to grip the bull by the horns,

I had trotted to the mall to buy a wrapped gift and a red rose flower!

Then came the time to tell her, my feelings,

I had knocked on her door, and waited!

After an eternity, the door unlocked,

She stood there in a revealing pink gown, and scarlet sandals,

I collapsed on my right knee, and I presented her with a flower,

Her roommates cheered on, but she was not impressed,

She turned away from me, and returned to her reading table, and dropped into a cosy, dark tan leather hunchback.

She threw my rose flower into the garbage bin and returned my gift, as I looked on helpless.

Salty tears flowed down my oval, hairy face, I rose and wiped them off, and decided to move out of her life.

As I turned the doorknob, I heard soft whispers in my head,

Don't leave, she's your angel!

Do not wait until the tide changes,

By morning, she'll be gone for good.

If you depart now, you will seek the world for her,

My life was on the tether hooks, and then something hit my brain,

I rushed towards her, she got up, anticipating a negative reaction on my part,

I picked her in my arms, looked into her dark eyes, and kissed her. I felt her resistance, then came the shudder and the acceptance!

To date, I am pleased to have pushed the boundaries of love.
