SCENE:   Adam and Eve, at home, evening, resting, talking

EVE   Adam, do you like me?

ADAM   (surprised) Yes

EVE   Do you think I am demanding, and difficult to communicate with?

ADAM   these are strange questions, Eve. What’s on your mind?

EVE   Us. You and I. Our relationship. We’re totally different, emotionally and physically. I wonder if and how we would know if we are relating well or as well as could be expected. I wonder what that would be like? I lose track of the time that we’ve been together. We’re attracted to each other; can pleasure each other. I feel safe with you. I trust you. I feel we can, together, make a future.

ADAM   (pauses) This being created thing is quite exhausting. One spends the first few days looking at everything, thinking to yourself, ”What is that? What is for = purpose? Does it link to anything? Is it safe, to touch, to eat? I spent the first few weeks choosing a safe place for us to live.

EVE   (murmurs) you did well

ADAM   Then, there’s this GOD thing. The almighty, all-powerful, and so on. How is one supposed to relate to him? Talk to him? He doesn’t say much to us, or should I say me. He leaves us to fumble, fall flat on our faces, and get up again. I think he knows or understands the purpose of our being here better than we can or do. This brings back to your question. I am glad you challenge him. I am glad to be with you. I appreciate all that you are and do. I feel safe with you. I trust you.

EVE   (Gives Adam a massive cuddle) I am so pleased you feel that way

ADAM   (smiles) I am too, my precious.

EVE   how do you feel about the God-the-creator business?

ADAM   That all happened a long time before we were created.

EVE   Do you believe him?

ADAM   He says he can’t lie.

EVE   Might, he be prone to over-exaggera

tion?

ADAM   Possibly. I don’t know.

Scene: Eve and GOD in the garden, conversing.

EVE   Do you feel proud?

GOD   Pride? No. Why?

EVE   You have created all this, being part of a living, reproducing system. To my mind, you must feel some pride.

GOD   Pride, before the fall, must come.

EVE   Pardon!

GOD   Forgive me. Pride is an emotion. Like many emotions, I am noticing, that it is unpredictable. No, let me clarify that. It can be temporary and pleasant, or habitual and demanding. The probabilities are clear, but the individual’s final choice is not. Do I feel pride, proud? No. I feel a sense of achievement, yes, for a job finished.

EVE   Emotions, unpredictable? Yes, I would have to agree.

GOD   You are a thoughtful human being, please; continue.

EVE   I find it true in myself. There are some emotions that I feel, ready to swamp me in feelings I can name or explain, or want to.

GOD   Are you pleased that I gave you the chance to feel emotion?

EVE   Yes. No. Maybe? I don’t know. If it's a part of growing as a human being, yes. While I’m experiencing emotions, I don’t know. Taking all things into account, yes, very much so. I do, however, have a concern. Emotions not being taken notice of, or strong emotions of right or wrong have the capacity to take over, direct impulses, affect actions; make a person do something that was their intention or decision. Emotions are things that need careful handling.

GOD   A very astute analysis! Is it something I should keep a watch on?

EVE   Yes. Strongly emotional beings can be self-harming and/or cause harm to others

GOD   Good night Eve. Thank you for your advice.
