The Mountaineer
The Mountaineer
The war against Covid-19 is far from over.
But we must not give up.
Against an unequal foe,
I carry on this fight.
The chilling air stings me.
No end in sight to this frosty night.
Silently he mocks me.
To do so is his right.
Steep precipices, bottomless crevices,
Taunting me with his sheer rugged might.
An overarching rock provides shelter.
My only companions the twinkling stars.
Smiling from the heavens they cheer and applaud
The courage and effort which brought me so far.
Miles above the sleeping valley I sit upright.
Ready to climb, ready to win.
The mountain is tall, the summit still far.
But I will not give up, I will not give in.
