The Message

The Message

2 mins
457

I open the door, to the knock precise,

The harsh westerly, the unrelenting chill,

But they always come,

They always will,

Who am I?

I am neither the last whisper before dusk,

Nor the enthusiastic promise of a lark,

The one leaving, my older tenant, my friend,

In the passage of life,

Carries a luggage, a bit torn, some sewed up,

With a smile so open, adieu he bids,

Who is he?

Acknowledging the new one,

With a touch to his hat,

He comes in, with a new baggage,

Moments, days, seasons,

Trying to burst out,

But bonded by the chains of timelessness,

Who is he?

My hands are scarred, crow eyes I have,

Testimony and sole witness,

To all that I have withstood,

In the moment, at the present,

Who am I?

I am nothing, yet I am everything,

Things start at my call, some tears, some laughter,

Are in my hand, the lines of destiny,

Which changes at random,

Who are all these people?

I know them well, yet cannot meet them,

In a line they stand with backs turned,

Outside my porch,

A line which fades into eternity, faded and in memory stored,

While the other side, has a line too,

New promises, fresh beginnings,

The harbinger of hope,

Who are they?

The waves know it, the winds whisper the riddle,

Death the joker, the ostentatious one,

Dances with life, the traveller, the tired one,

But the message all know,

From the fogs of mist, since time beyond,

I am the present, the one leaving is our past,

The new tenant, the future,

Who hides his baggage, but what is future

But past wrapped in a new cloth,

Seated on one side,

Are the years gone by,

The ones on other side,

The years to come, the future,

While I in present,

Welcome them all,

For the message of life is loud and clear,

Time goes on, come what may,

A bit of sunlight, a shade of darkness,

Like the sum zero,

Which is nothing yet everything,

Life shall go on, things shall pass,

Till earth and horizon,

Meet somewhere beyond the rainbow,

And the last blue mountain,

We have to go on,

We shall go on,

Till the bells toll,

And I too become one with the Maker.
