The Glacier And The River

The Glacier And The River

1 min
239

Tranquil and serene, peaceful and calm,

From the snow-clad mountains to the ocean,

Inch by inch, the glacier moves,

Oblivious to its surroundings, affected by none.

The art of minding its own business,

Over the years, it has learned and mastered,

To comments and criticism, it pays no heed,

Doing its duty, unruffled and unflustered.

But this was too much for the envious river,

Making snide remarks as it swished down the hill,

"Even the continental drift is faster than you,

Looking at you, even time stands still.

People need me for irrigation and navigation,

Putting me to use in multifarious ways,

But a languid, worthless relic like you,

Is of no use to anyone" the river smugly says.

But like the ice of which it was made,

Its head too was thick and frozen,

The glacier ignored the rambling river,

Knowing that summer had begun.

The blistering heat spared no one,

And soon the river was nowhere to be seen,

Meanwhile, the glacier started to melt,

And soon was in place, where the river had been.

Barking dogs will continue to bark,

But if one ignores them and does one's best,

Then like the glacier, reward is a given,

And God will take care of the rest.
