The Day We Got Freedom

The day India got freedom, we were euphoric,

We celebrating, the exhilaration of being free, you and me,

The atmosphere was overwhelming and hypnotic,

Strangers became friends for we were finally free,

There was a sense of happiness in the air,

People dancing on the streets at midnight,

They were in the throes of ecstasy without any care

Oh, what a wonderful and joyous sight.

Freedom to breathe freedom from fears,

Freedom to say what you wanted any time,

Freedom from those night of tears,

Freedom to know, that fighting for freedom, was no more a crime.

So let us understand when we hoist the flag of our country,

That we are free today, for they fought tooth and nail,

For us, so that we are always free.

So remember them, we should not fail,

Those who fought, so that we were free, 

You remember them, we are living a life, that is not dependent,

Because of our forefathers, today we are independent.
