The Bonfire of the Self

The Bonfire of the Self

In the vibrant tapestry of Holi's hues,

A deeper resonance the spirit imbues.

Beyond the joyous revelry, the colours bright,

Lies a portal to a mystical, sacred light.

Holika Dahan, the bonfire's pyre,

Symbolizes the ego's consuming fire.

The flickering flames, a fierce, cleansing rage,

Burn away attachments that bind us to the cage.

Preconceptions, judgments, desires that hold,

All melt in the furnace, leaving us bold.

Like Prahlad, the pious, we stand unafraid,

As the transient facade of the self is swayed.

The colours, then, a vibrant symphony,

Paint the canvas of our transformed entity.

Red, the blood of love, divine and pure,

Washes over our hearts, forever to endure.

Blue, the vast expanse of the limitless sky,

Reminds us of the divine dwelling nigh.

Green, the verdant hope of a life anew,

Sprouting from the ashes, bathed in morning dew.

Yellow, the brilliance of wisdom's embrace,

Illuminating the path with inner grace.

Orange, the spark of fire, ever so bright,

Kindling the flame of truth, dispelling night.

And in the joyful chaos, the colours that blend,

A tapestry woven, where differences transcend.

For in this unity, this vibrant display,

We see the reflection of the divine's gentle sway.

Holi's laughter, a chorus that rings,

Dissolves the barriers, the separation it brings.

Rich and poor, young and old, all join the fray,

One humanity dancing, come what may.

The water balloons, bursting with playful might,

Wash away the ego, leaving pure, radiant light.

We become children again, innocent and free,

Reflecting the divine's boundless glee.

And as the colours settle, a gentle hue remains,

The purple twilight where divinity reigns.

A deep introspection, a stillness profound,

The echo of the bonfire on sacred ground.

For Holi's essence transcends the outward glee,

It's a call to surrender, to finally be free.

To let go of attachments, the burdens we hold,

And embrace the oneness, the story untold.

So let the colours inspire, the rituals ignite,

A transformation within, bathed in divine light.

In the bonfire of the self, let our egos wane,

And find the peace of Holi, a cleansing, sweet rain.
