Target

Once more,

It went to the left,

Once more,

It soared high,

Once more,

It swooped low,

Once more,

It headed right.

I’m tired,

I’m fed up,

I can’t do this.

Once more,

Once more,

I keep saying,

But every time

Hope betrays me.

 

I pull the strings

Backward again,

Focus, focus,

I tell myself

Ready to let go,

I stare at the arrow

Soars high in the air,

And meets the board.

 

Exhilaration flows

Through me,

At the simple satisfaction

Of my imperfect victory.

A little on the edge,

Lies my arrow.

The target is far off,

But soon I’ll hit it.
