Saudade
Saudade
We lived like flowers
wild and beautiful
soaked up the sun
drenched in the rain
shadowed by boughs overhead.
We hummed with the bees
and danced with the falling leaves.
The squirrels played with us
while the birds sang
melodies of times immemorial.
We did not know grief
which grow like a weed.
Seasons changed
And we grew
Like that seed
breaking the brittle walls
of dying shells.
And suddenly, the world
was a changed place,
Of sobs, hurricanes and revenge.
Now I stand alone
deep within the rivers of my soul
hearing the approaching sea.
