Rape as a Culture

Here in Ethiopia, there was a culture,

Simply in Amharic It is called “Telefa” meaning takeover,

men could takeover women suddenly.

Without her will, while the girl is alone,

The man with his companion comes in sudden.

Then he steals her and conceals her in some place solemnly.

And does as his want, He can take her virginity,,

Then sends a messenger to her family,

To reach an agreement for marriage,

Then her family will agree with him, albeit,

She becomes a wife without her want,

Now, they are protected by the government.

This deed has started to be seen as a rigorous offense,

It becomes unthinkable for men to do this.

Because it has many years of imprisonment.
