O Maa Laxmi
O Maa Laxmi
Will you come into my humble abode
O mother so tender.
Will you adore my house with
your presence and splendour.
I have smeared my floor with cow dung and clay
and matted it with intricate patterns with kumkum and rice flour.
You follow the trail of the dimly lit divas
which will lead you to the only hut
in the forest among the foliage.
I will make you some sweets,
some jalebis and barfis.
And a dish to relish till you lick your fingers clean.
We will sit by the fire on the palm knit mat.
And I will sing you some bhajans which I have rehearsed for the occasion.
I want no wealth, no land nor gold.
Just a darshan of you is all that I need to celebrate and
adulate and a blessing from you for a peaceful demise is all that I seek.
