No Raise Without Praise

I travel everyday to my office, with a laptop bag on my side

In autos and in crowded trains, creating a nuisance on the ride.

The bag heavy for my shoulders, the laptop heavy for my brains

I do not have an option, as the raise is never the same.

I really slog too hard, not to work but to praise

My egoistic, idiotic boss, who is an absolute craze.

He keeps a check on my phrases; they dare not be the same

His myths of bossing and controlling his wife have to be applauded with majestic grace

I have overheard his conversation, his apologies and his pleas

I bet if he had begged with the same spirit, would turn a millionaire quick and with ease.

My promotion letter is handed to me, with a stone tied around his neck

The next one month I only have to hear, it was a huge favor granted for a nervous wreck

And during that promotional month, we mandatorily visit several joints

I need not mention who pays the bills, to hear how he manipulated the points.

Last but not the least I must admit, this is not the rarest of rare cases

Pleasing bosses is the want if not the need, of every employee, of any nation.
