Moonburn

Moonburn

2 mins
290

I wish the world would get an ulcer

Perforate its siding

From the stress, it puts itself under,

Bring it to its knees

In blinding agony

And beg the sky for help.

I wish that all men would learn to cry

And all women would learn to fight,

And that all people could know

That both of those actions

Are for those needing shelter.

I wish the stars would cure us in sleep,

Shine their crepuscular rays

Down on our heads

Until we’ve got moonburn,

Our pillows already smoldering

From all the red hot rage

We carried to our dreams,

Working so hard to ensure

That even in sleep

We get no true rest.

Could we have the world light up

Like a tumor under an MRI,

So even greatest skeptics

Could not ever deny

The sickness growing inside.

I know you spilled out your life

To salvage the carrion that was mine,

But I wish you would help me

Take my doubt by the hair

And drown it in your blood.
