I Am A Woman
I Am A Woman
I grew up in constant fear,
I sensed an impending danger always near.
The mind shook me up but I had to bear,
The words I am a woman I had to hear.
I have to be soft and gentle in my speech,
I became timid and meek with every moment within my reach.
I kept silent when I was right.
I was told,a woman does not fight.
A Woman in me awaited her birth,
TilI I stepped out of my cradle and searched.
I fell, I stood up and summoned up all my strength,
With every fall I rose and walked ahead with all my breath.
I'm gentle and soft in my words,
No more a meek or timid in this world.
I fight for truth and my identity,
Cannot withstand gender inequality.
I celebrate my birth and bury my bygone years,
No more fears and tears to tear me apart.
I have left all of them in my distant memory,
What I remember today is
I am a Woman of Today.
