Her Identity
Her Identity
Help me. Remind me why I’m here. -Death Poem, Kim Addonizio
Layers upon layers that would shy away a kimono
She wore identities that blend and mix when seen from afar
Eat away and kill from within, everything at stake if not for her lips
That dare not curl back down hiding away the tales her eyes told
A heart wrenching cry and fiery pain mirrored in the crystal ball
One wrong touch, One wrong word, One wrong hint and One wrong shrug
Everything would crumble, every identity exposed,
No, that can’t happen
What if people come to know?
So, she pulled away the root cause
Now there’s nothing to fear, her eyes will remain shut, her ears deaf
Not seeing, not hearing, not feeling and not existing.
What did I do? What did I want to protect?
I could have had everything but now I have nothing.
I left behind pain and suffocation.
I wish I had given myself a chance.
Alas, she cannot even regret now,
Her thoughts ceased to exist not even leaving behind their shadow.
