Forming ‘Shanti Seva Dals’

The flurry of hatredness
On the ground of
Religion, caste, Language,
Called as riots,
Flayed by bigots
Always causes crimes,
And organized violence,
Killing of innocent persons,
Whether one has enemy or not,
Though one refuses to make an enemy.
This is the essence of
The bullets hit on M.K. Gandhi,
Our national leader who
Refused to make an ‘enemy’ and
To his last breath Gandhi’s answer to this question was an unwavering ‘yes’.
Today, most young people view
Gandhi’s confidence in non-violence
As at best a well- meaning pipe dream,
and, at worst, a delusional state of mind.
In such flurry of hatredness
There is necessity of
Forming ‘Shanti Seva Dals’,
An idea that Gandhi had often spoken.
A Shanti Seva Dal is not intended,
To be a police force or
A body of volunteers
That has to run around
Suppressing riots and disturbances.
Such a ‘Dal’ is always required
To be at work creating
An atmosphere of peace and goodwill
So that communal riots and
Disturbances may not occur at all,
And if they unfortunately do occur,
Seva Dal would throw itself
Between the fighting forces and
Prevent or at any rate reduce
The intensity of the clashes.
This concept is developed
By European and American pacifists
Through out the early 20th century.
Shanti Sena is to
Make a very natural beginning,
Mix with the people there,
Make friends with them.
And keep Interest in their joys and sorrows. Moving among the people
Is the initial stage before Shanti Sena
And the rest will follow automatically.
To do Shanti Sena,
it requires the faith that
Everyone can be enabled to be freed
From the toxicity of hate
And it would be perfect tribute
To our father of the nation,
Mahatma Gandhi
On his 75th death anniversary.
