Fate Undone

It was the last straw.

The hunger was already there.

But this he never saw,

Even in his nightmare.

Going out was not an option,

The virus was waiting to pounce.

Staying in meant epic disruption,

Hardly any food, not even an ounce.

He looked at the faces,

Of his family, his children,

No sign of happiness, not even traces.

"Papa, I can't find food, have you hidden?"

He stared at him in silence,

And then glanced at his pocket.

What could he feed his prince?

He didn't even have a handsome deposit.

He had been out of work,

Since the evil virus showed up.

His employer conveniently cut his perk,

Leaving him completely dumb.

He had to go out,

No other option,

Even if it meant,

Defying administration.

So he went out,

Looking for work,

In a locked-down world,

But all was waiting for him,

Was the worst.

His nose running

And a dry cough.

He started running,

Even a temperature.

He knew he was doomed,

Still no bread, just the virus,

That was not food!

That was venomous!

He covered his eyes and sat down,

Under the scorching sun,

As tears went down,

Fate undone.
