‘Ek Koshish’ The Nascent Moon

The setting sun took center stage,

Everyone was settling down, waiting for the magic to unfold.

There was excitement running deep within.

A strange feeling, the same, kind I always get when something anew is about to emerge on the canvas of my dreams!

These daydreams are my spirit, my driving force, one that lifts every part of my soul.

The setting sun left its warmth within me,

Little did I know the golden glow was to awaken a new ray of hope in me!

Sitting in the am-phi theater of my school 

Waiting for Gulzaar Sahab to come to enthuse and refuel

Everyone’s mind and soul with his charismatic words!

And to watch my students pay a tribute to the most inspiring persona, our very own Kalam Sahib.

Indeed all this was enough to set my nerves tangling!

As the evening progressed I listened with intent about the deep satisfying ‘journey of Arushi.’

 ‘Ek Koshish’ which enthused life in many …

It is true, all we need in life is just ‘Ek Koshish’ just one fair try!

For every child, to dance on the silver-blue path, as if they are the nascent moons born to shine!

The charismatic voice went on as if he was there to answer all my deep embedded worries.

He said, “loneliness is the biggest handicap for today’s child!”

His words numbed me, the comforting glow of the setting sun disappeared.

My inside was filled with silence, a silence that wrenched my heart and demanded an answer.

Questions that often surrounded me, of which I had no certain answer, came flooding back.

He was right!

We have stolen the innocence, out of the childhood of our children!

We got caught in the mad race and deprived them of the love, which was their right!

We robbed them, of the love and comfort of a stable family.

We taught them to look for happiness in the outside world!

How could we have forgotten, all that they needed was a comfortable hug

A reassuring smile, a comforting thought that we are at their side.

All they need is to see the pride in our eyes when they dance on the silver-blue light and alight!

Now I know why the children of today are disinterested and disoriented!

Why nothing holds their interest and adds sparkle to their life?

Now I know these troubled eyes, ask for nothing more than a comforting home

With their loved ones by their side.

Like a jigsaw puzzle, everything else will slide back into its proper place

And our children will be ready to face the world at their own pace! 

All we have to do is, fill their heart with love and warmth and sit back and enjoy, our ‘Ek Koshish’ which will give birth to many, ‘nascent moons with their own silver-blue light to shine bright!
