Broken But Beautiful

Broken But Beautiful

We look at stars shining in the sky every night

But we only wish upon a shooting star

Breaking off of the sky

Similarly, some things become more valuable

For instance, hearts,

Relationships and the broken hearts of people

In Japan,

There is the art of kintsugi

Where broken ceramics are put back together again

Their cracks are filled with gold cement

To remind you,

Remind me and all of us

That broken can be beautiful again

To remind us

That memory may fade

But don't be afraid to remember.

The importance of being and staying glued in this together

To teach us

That our past history is what actually helps us rest

To remind us

That even though the heart moves on,

Does it really ever forget?

I don't know who fixes broken pieces

But I do know why

That man still uses a tattered blanket

To warm himself up on cold nights

Because in spite of being tattered,

That blanket reminds him of

Who he used to be and allows him

To meet his own conscience

In kintsugi when two broken pieces are put back together

They're given time,

For the glue to harden

And for the craftsmen to divide the pieces before putting them back together hardening and softening with every breath,

They stay distant only to be together again

They fear of being completely broken again

The fear of having to hear or say yet another goodbye

The fear of loving way too much or maybe too little

The fear of knowing

That their hopes and dreams are still

Way too brittle

But what good is love

That you aren't afraid to lose?

What good is a traveler who doesn't have a home?

If you're on this journey,

Relax and breathe in,

If today you're broken,

Don't be afraid to shatter tomorrow

Learn to shatter,

Because even Majnu entered the coffin with Laila

Learn to Shatter

Because even Shahjahan is buried with Mumtaaz

Love doesn't die even though lovers do

True lovers are not afraid of being broken again

So my dear listeners

Wrap yourself in this tattered blanket of love

You've walked the straight path for too long

Don't be afraid to take a turn

Hold the hands of each other for the Journey

And not for the destination

Let your lover choose his own path

You may live apart

But at least have the courage to do so

What will happen if you break again?

You will rise up and say

"I did it all over again"

So my dear listeners,

Repeat it with me

That you're broken but beautiful

And beautiful

Is strong enough

To be broken again
