Bouquet Of Poetry: Homer's Vision
Bouquet Of Poetry: Homer's Vision
"King Peleus', sips a cup, from the conjugal sea,
On Pelion slope, Thetis' lo! smiles to agree.
A solemn feast, on season's grace, Zeus proposed,
Verdant floor, hosts all, oh! Eris disposed.
Queen of discord, rage attired, invaded the soil,
Treated the party, an apple withal, meant for broil.
"For Calliste, the fairest", as Eris declared,
Aphrodite's heart leapt above, first, she peered.
Zeus' consort followed next, in a selfsame manner,
Athena now wisdom wreathed, adhered the clamour.
An earthly prince well chosen from Trojan blood,
Parice he named, had to sail, over dispute's flood.
Love's deity played artifice, Helen's love bribed,
The golden fruit, fairest's claim, went to Aphrodite.
"Hence Hypnos churned the vision on aged sight,
Truth revealed on grey lids, bereft of light.
Vision at rest, age embrace, lies now that bard,
Like laboring mother, womby words, pangs for birth.
Blooming herd,
Autumn drives, like a shepherd,
Enlightened bard,
Homer first, named the strain "Iliad".
