Black and White
Black and White
Caroline saw her neighbour burn rainbows from her window,
Terror seized her when the man looked up with his eyes wild like a beast,
Two new big brothers with pretty faces had just moved into their neighbourhood,
And they smelled of sunshine and cookie dough and they spoke of big dreams.
The wild man tore the colours from their gate and threw a lighter on the love stained silk,
He screamed something about God's anger and repentance and words her mother forbade her to speak,
Caroline saw one of the pretty boys standing in a corner with somthing in his eyes,
To her young mind it looked like misery, but it was anger, anger burning red and deep.
After that days have gone and the world grew blacker while the brains went white,
Young ones jumping from bridges and one page from the Bible should not be taking lives,
Caroline joined the marches and the rainbow forces and wild man still haunted her in the dreams,
The pretty boys now had a kid and he had loving grandparents, she could see the world slowly changing.
