Birdie

Born with a new life, full of surprises,

And my mother's sweet smile.

Accepted, loved and cared,

Ignorant of all fears and lies.

Unknown of partiality, greed and despair,

She thought everyone was just and fair.

Was curious of every little thing,

Had questions deep within.

Searched for answers of them all, oh!

How innocent she was, that Birdie meek and small.

She was all happy, in her world of dreams.

A sweet sleep on her mother's lap,

And all her demons would flee.

But then one day she started to

Feel she was left out in a crowd,

And bruises and battle scars wounded her,

Poor Birdie, now she can't speak so loud.

She searched for love and care once again,

But this time she was cautious,

She knew times have changed.

So she spread her wings and took a flight,

Just improved herself daily.                

Sang her song and danced her moves,

She was moving on now, free and gaily.

Faith in God, head held high, she's the Birdie,

The fragrance of the sky.

She now understands the answers to questions she had,

It was all in her, there's no reason to be sad.

She doesn't need diamonds or gold to feel complete or whole,

She is in peace with herself, a sparkling soul.

Birdie never gives up, she knows it's all possible,

Learns from her experiences, she's always a fighter.

She has the same message for all who want to hear,

Don't search for anything, it's all in you,

And that's what helped her get through.

The amount of love you can share, or

Extend a helping hand, to lift others up,

To be a steady stand.

The courage to be good in the bad,

A strength no one can measure,

But beyond everything,

Hold your innocence as the greatest treasure.
