Africanicity

Africanicity

I was raised by a complete set of African parents

             -Ooh!! African parents

A mother who I will call out for help yet its she who was administering hell on my buttocks

A father who I grew up fearing and had to question if he had any love hiding somewhere underneath him but at least I received gifts from him every Christmas of the year

And at times occasionally I got 'adopted' by my grandparents for a day or two even for a whole year if things are not that very good

Yes, at those times when gender based violence proved to have no gender

And fists and kettles grew wings

While screaming, yelling and shouting became a form of communication between the two

One getting a black eye after a quarrel became a norm

My house was full of uninvited storms

With arguments never ceasing

A mere fight might erupt anywhere the man of the house fails to complement but criticizes

Starting from how his favourite meal was prepared to how his clothes were washed....

And oh yes!, i always came back home and never asked of how the water pot broke

Or why there is stench of petrol in the house-If you are an African child you understand why I couldn't

There is a time I asked and I had to lie of my limping to my teachers and anyone who asked how I 'fell' from a tree...
