A Slain Lemon Tree
A Slain Lemon Tree
Still I could feel
The flavour that filled the air
When they slay our lemon tree!
Covered with buds, flowers, lemons
The lemon tree stood spread…
Without any guilt
They pulled the tree away…
Tears filled our eyes
Pleading not to let it die…
Uprooted they decided to plant
Elsewhere where it can take roots!
Dragged all the way through
The roots were pushed hard
Into the dry pit that brimmed hot…
When life threw lemons at me
I thought about that lemon tree…
Days we planned to prepare
A bottle with fresh lemonade
That could make our friends smile
Withered, wilted, leaves dropped
One by one bringing along with it
Buds, flowers, tiny lemons
That failed to be our lemonade.
