Deaf or Dead

It started in May, I reckon, around our seventh wedding anniversary. Regan was about four at that time and Marcus was two. We were just like any other family; happy and busy with our works. It was like a fairy tale except for Regan's deafness. At times there were communication problems between us, so we learned sign language and started to teach her the same. Little did we know, it was going to us more than just communicating with Regan. 

There was news about the mysterious death of a boy scout group near the lake in the town. The news spread like a forest fire. Their streets were filled with flowers in the honour of the young boys. It was the third day after that incident when the mayor organised an event to mourn when they came haunting everyone. No one had seen anything like that before. The function deemed to mourn became a graveyard. 

Such incidents kept occurring frequently. Soon there were at least two such incidents a day. The authorities urged people to stay inside their houses. I was pregnant with Beau at that time. Once Lee nearly dodged them in an attempt to get medicines for me. Soon it was found that they lacked vision and hunted their prey with their incredible hearing abilities. From that day, either one has to stay mute and deaf or be deaf.
