Weird Breakup

So, this was when R was in college pursuing her inter 2nd year. She was timid and naïve in her approach to life. She was a “Yes” man and could never tell her mom what she really was thinking. Like, she wanted to be in a career like modelling or to become an air hostess were looking glamorous was an important ask. She couldn’t see anything beyond the appearances as for her age all she could think of was looking beautiful. She wanted to apply to make up and wear modern clothes which was a forbidden thing in her family. They were so conservative that she was always told to be careful around boys and never to talk to anyone. She was told that if she ever got caught talking to a boy, it would hamper the family's pride and her chances of getting married into a good family (with less dowry). She had to be pristine because she has a younger sister who is also come of age and they should always be presentable in society.

One day she got a chance to go on a trip along with her private tuition batch. On the way there, she met a boy ‘U’ who was also a part of their tuition and started talking to him. Other girls in her study group tried to stop her by saying that they shouldn’t be talking to boys. On any other day, R would have listened and would have been obedient however, this time she wanted to prove that she can be a rebel. She just wanted to show her friends that she can be whatever she wanted to be and hence, she kept talking to U.

As the day progressed, U started to get flirty with R and though R noticed it she didn’t give it much thought. Might be because she thought who would get hurt with some harmless flirting and little did, she know then that it was anything but that. As the trip came to an end the teachers told the students to get a snack of their choice. All the girls were getting ice creams and U did the same just to showcase his feelings for R.

U took a bite of the ice cream and R also took a bite. There was a loud gasp as the other girls couldn’t comprehend how R could do such an unthinkable thing. R didn’t even like the taste, but she has come this far and couldn’t back down. Well, they all boarded the same bus and U started to make moves like trying to touch R’s hand. Trying to hold her hand, touch her feet with his. WHAT THE FREAKS….. This is the point when R’s fears kicked in and she tried to put some distance between her and U. She tried her best with little to no success.

Thankfully, the trip came to an end and R ran back home with the bad taste of the ice cream. The next day was Sunday, as the trip was planned in such a way so the students could relax. R woke up a little late and was chit-chatting with her grandmother. That’s when she noticed that U was standing opposite her house and this was quite unexpected. She didn’t want to be scolded by her mother (just in case her mother notices the boy) and completely avoided going anywhere near the balcony. 

The next day while R was walking to her tuition, just like daily; She stopped right in her tracks when she saw U on a bicycle waiting near the end of the street. R didn’t know what to do and started walking slowly while U followed her. He started talking to her and was surprised why R was being so stiff. He wanted to tell her how he fell in love with her the moment he saw her talking to him and was amazed at the way they could share an ice cream.

This was exactly what R feared as her parents will ground her and most probably get her married if in case, they find her doing anything remotely resembling hanging out with boys. As she was naïve and sort of dumb; she played along. She in fact walked with the boy to his home because he wanted notes from her and weirdly when she got her notes back, she found a love letter in it. She couldn’t discuss it with her sister as she was younger than her and neither can R discuss this with her friends because they would be like “I told you so”.

For R who likes the English language, the letter was written in such a poor manner. She got the creeps and didn’t even read it twice. In the meanwhile, U started to send her Greeting cards and whatnot everything. She was being questioned by her grandparents as to why there was a greeting card at the doorstep and R was shivering with the worry that she might be in trouble. She knew only one thing and it was that this should end. IMMEDIATELY.

R told U that she wanted to speak to him privately and then, she said that she didn’t like him. She didn’t say that it was because of his bad taste in ice cream or his bad English but she was smart enough to say that her parents wanted her to study hard to settle well in life. She started to walk away but U was not about to give up so easily and he said that he wanted answers. Answers. These answers would seem weird to anyone else, but R couldn’t take it because she just wasn’t ready for anything serious in life.

She walked fast and U followed her but started to shout at her. This attracted the attention of someone passing by and R took advantage of this. She quickly got away and kept looking back to see if U would follow her but thankfully, he was wiser not to chase her. This cat and mouse chase continued for a couple of more days until U realized that R wasn’t coming back.

What a weird breakup and for a very weird reason. Alas, that was that.
