I sat slouched on the couch in the living room reading the “Da Vinci Code” and enjoying the silence. As I sipped a nice cup of hot chocolate, I was completely lost in the story when suddenly the doorbell caught my attention. It was usually the neighbors who came at this time so early in the morning to help me with the daily activities. Ever since I lost my memories in the car accident, my neighbors were the only people who helped me try to recollect my lost memories. They were an old couple who were very fond of me. But I clearly remembered them saying that they’d be out of station for a couple days before they would be back.

So I wondered who it could be. Could it have been my parents? My colleagues? Or my old friends from college? I tried to remember when the doorbell rang again. “Coming!” I said loudly. I got up from the couch and walked towards the door. The locks unlocked and I pushed the handle to open the door. To my surprise, I found a small carton box on the door mat. I swung my head in all possible directions to see who had dropped it, but no one was visible. I picked it up and read the label that was glued to it - ‘To: Michelle’. That confirmed that the package wasn’t misplaced. I closed the door behind me and placed the box on the table. I realized that the box contained glass bottles as they jingled when I picked them up. With the help of a pair of scissors, I slowly slit open the masking tape of the box to avoid damaging the artefacts inside it.

I tilted my head in perplexion to find tiny colorful vials in the box, each labelled after an emotion. I first picked up the red vial and removed the tightly fixed cork from the vial’s neck. A red cloud surrounded me. I felt like being teleported to a different timeline. In a few moments, my hazy vision cleared and I could see myself standing right in front of me. I had so many questions but I couldn’t ask because I was inaudible. So I patiently waited. What I saw in front of me was unexplainable. I could see all the memories that made me angry before the car accident. While I saw them, my blood boiled of anger. They were all the incidents that had actually happened with me. When the memories were over, I was teleported back to my house. I opened the green vial.

They exhibited the memories I had of disgust. Every vial had its own importance with yellow being happy memories, blue being sad memories and the violet being mixed emotions. But the white memory vial had no label. I opened it. A white cloud surrounded me. I could see myself injured, lying on the hospital bed. Suddenly I noticed tiny specks of light dancing in the air. They flew towards me that lay on the bed and started forming a whirlpool of swirling air. I could see different colors slowly rising from my head. The tiny specks of light segregated them accordingly into tiny vials, just like the ones I had received. Then again, I was teleported back into my house. I smiled. I had just lost my memories a few weeks back but that didn’t matter anymore, because I had just got them back
