Rima is waiting. Waiting for the buzz. The notification buzz. Yes, she just posted the beautiful pictures of the latest cake she baked.

There it goes...Excited she grabbed her cell. Oh my, she received so many likes and comments on her post. She also noticed that her very own neighbour was the latest to like and comment on her cake.

Super excited she carried on with her online office schedule.

As she was working, she reminisced her childhood days. It struck her bold..the changing times.

She remembered as a young girl, how as a young girl she used to deliver dishes to her neighbours. She recalled how her mother used to send her with a share of every dish to be shared with their neighbours. Ohh, how times have changed. The casual chat, the ease of visiting, sharing, caring is all missing.

And here, today, instead of sharing the actual dish with her neighbour, she shares it virtually with the world for one and all to see. The irony of life struck her.... she receives a like and  comment from her very own next door neighbour.

She wondered...is this the world we have created over time and is this how we want to live.

Rima recalled the times, when there used to be a telephone in her parents home, one of the few in the neighborhood. Rima remembers how the neighbours used to visit their house either to make or receive a call. And in the present, Rima cannot recall the time when she visited her neighbour. Today, everything is virtual. Yes, you want to discuss anything, a new group is formed for the same and people discuss and deliberate on it virtually.

Rima decides then and there, to start the change by visiting her neighbour and keeping in touch ...man to man.

So, Rima cuts a portion of the cake and goes out to visit and share the delicacy with thy neighbour.

Rima realised that in the earlier times, the phones were bigger than what is today and connected to the wall thereby keeping us connected to the ground. And today, even though we are connected to the world far and wide, we fail to develop a bond with our neighbours. We seem to be disconnected though connected. Have our hearts also become smaller with the size of the phone today, she wondered.....and was glad to take the first step towards change.
