It was getting dark and he was watching her going back, to a new world, after kissing him goodbye for the last time. Far away from the shore, the sun was drowning into the sea, as in some ways depicting the state of his heart. As he bent down to collect the bunch of letters thrown by her, a tide came from almost nowhere and took back everything with it. He ran behind the tide but it was merely a false attempt. He was about to give up when he saw a slightly wet piece of paper with something written on it. He grabbed it almost like it was a map to a treasure. Others must have considered him a mad man, but he was not in a state of reasoning anymore. Slowly he swiped the sand from the paper and began reading.

MY Sunshine

I don’t know where the sun lies, but I have found mine in U. Now all I am waiting 4 U is to come and light up the darkening sky of my dreams with the brightness of your love. Otherwise, I will always be traveling in an endless night, without dreams, without love...

He was able to taste the saltiness of his own tears as he finished reading. It was his first and according to him the most foolish attempt of his life to writing a poem, a poem for her. But today this piece of paper seemed more valuable to him than all his prized possessions. Slowly he got up and started walking towards his car. The driver held the door for him but he gestured him to close it as he intended to walk. Suddenly he recalled something and before going further, purchased a pack of cigarette from a roadside shop and lit one instantly, it was his first in a few years after all, as almost ten years ago he had promised her that as long as she is there for him, he won’t smoke. The reason was very simple; he did not want the taste of her lips to fade from his as it was the day of their first kiss.

On another hand, today all he wanted was to remove all the traces of her presence in his life and even nature seemed to be helping him as heavy rainfall started so as to wash off the remains of her from his very existence. He went on with the crowd, almost unaware of what he was doing, where he was going, but at last, he stopped, it was someplace isolated from whole Mumbai as it was relatively calm and dark as compared to the brighter and faster City. He threw away his coat and sat down on a footpath as there was no one to disturb him over there. It was the end that made him think of the beginning…
