Sunflower Gifted Sunflowers

Sunflower Gifted Sunflowers

It was a sunny day in Mumbai and Vini, who was 22, was home alone. Vini was her nickname; I really couldn’t remember the real one. She was sitting on the couch near the window and looked absorbed in her own thoughts. Her eyes were fixed on the little garden in the neighborhood. All her life she had waited for someone who would gift her flowers and chocolates; a chick-flick wish probably? Kidding. She was single for a long time as a matter of fact; but she wanted to be with someone now. Not a random someone as she was a deep lady and hence, love for her meant to swim in the depths and not just some cool pictures on Instagram with her so called soul friend. She was still swimming in her own mind with her own thoughts. But then all of a sudden, she rose from the couch, took her car keys, locked the house and went off.

Flower shop, it was. She selected three beautiful sunflowers and bought them. She smiled at the seller and drove off. On the way back to her home she gave one flower to a random stranger and smiled at him. The stranger smiled back. Crazy how little things can light up someone’s face and crazier to receive that happiness from a complete stranger. She thought that just like she was waiting for someone to give her a flower, maybe someone was hoping for the same; after all, on some level we all hope for similar things, just at different times.

She continued to drive, heading for home. When she reached the home, she placed the second flower in a water jar and kept it near the window in the living room, from where the sun could peep in. Her mom loves flowers too maybe. She smiled at it and it giggled as if it can feel her emotions. Nature is beautiful in the way it presents itself, or just in the way we present it to our eyes!

But the third flower was meant for someone special; the person who deserved it since a pretty long time. And as we all know, better late than never, she gifted the third one to herself.

~Vini never quite needed a sunflower because she was already a beautiful one within herself, always leaning towards the light of happiness; but on days when we feel a little alone, we all need sweet little gifts and care; many a times from our own selves.
