Relatives

Shyamjee was believed to be a noble person in the village. He was a strong supporter of feudalism. People use to call him Garrainjee. He proudly narrates those days when his only elephant was used by govt officials to reach into interior villages. He grandfather had many acres of land. But their main business was lending money on high interest. His grandfather was very kind in offering love and establishing relationship with many ladies from different community. At the time of partition, one of his affairs Saheeda Khatoon left for Pakistan, where she married a Pakistani. Garrainjee relatives are holding very high position in government department. One of his brothers is holding high post in the railway, who belongs to O.B.C.and presently posted as General Manager. His grandfather had an affair with a O.B.C lady and they had four children. (They all became O.B.C now). She return back to Masaudhi and settled their with all these children. Later married to her own community and obtained O.B.C certificate for all of them. His grandfather was having an affair with another lady, who was the daughter of a schedule caste priest of Ravidas temple. She was from the same village later on she shifted to her mother's native village in Jehanabad, She has a son and a daughter. She obtained her SC status from this village. They are now schedule caste. Her daughter was married to a local Political Leader from the Ravidas community. Her son retired as a circle office. And all children of Saheeda settled in Aurangabad as she couldn't take them to Pakistan for reasons unknown to me.

Garrainjee is having four brothers and he is born in noble landlord family and belongs to General caste. His relatives belongs to many communities and enjoys several constitutional benefits offered to SC and Minorities. Everything was fine with Garrainjee. Once, I suggested him to send children to good educational institutions which he immediately refused by calculating fees and compound interest spent on children education. Later his brothers advised him to avoid my company.

His father was a nice gentleman. He had a brother who was only having 2 daughters. Later his son-in-laws demanded their share in the property. But they were beaten severely in return. No body in the village supposed them. Lastly, one of the sister registered property in her cousin brother's name. Another sold some property by accepting comparatively very less price to another villager.

Now they are fighting among themselves. Everybody is suspicious about each other. In the meantime, Garrainjee's only son is not keeping well. He is studying at Govt Middle school. They don't have Elephant. Only support is source. He is the youngest one so he and one of his elders brother is managing crops. All of them are getting some share which is sufficient for that particular year. He sends his son to local P.H.C for medical check up and medicines. One day he was refereed to A.N.M.M.C, Gaya where doctors were not able to treat properly. His son was refereed to Delhi for Kidney transplant. He along with his wife and son reached to Delhi. Everything seems very costly here, travelling from one place to another place, cost of stay hotel and food, treatment and medicine. Most surprising was pathological test which was costlier than others. He spends all his saving and soon realized that all his property will not be sufficient to take care of medical bills. He called his relatives and friends and he got some help from them but it was not sufficient. He got some help from his far relatives from other community but Kidney transplant was very very expensive for him. He was unable to find a donor and lastly he appealed to his elder brother Arjun Bhaiya for his help. It is more than 3 months they spent in Delhi. So, Arjun Bhaiya reached next day to Delhi. Kidney donors has to undergo many medical checkup and you need to spent huge amount towards this medical checkup. Garrainjee spends this amount but just a day before operation Arjun Bhaiya disappeared from Delhi's hospital. He and his wife were very nervous. They became hopeless. They have to extend surgery date. One of the lady from the family agreed to become donor. Again the same process, they have to undergo for check up and spent huge amount in this. This lady donated her kidney and saved the life of this child from her family.

After a year, Garrainjee returned to the village, but he found his rooms were now occupied by the children of the lady who saved his son's life. Now what to do? His one of the Muslim brother had a big house nearby, who was now staying in Aurangabad. He decided to rent his house. Garrainjee is staying in the new house. He is no longer a rich person. He is also waiting for rations distribution and government scheme. He got help from many of his far relatives, friends and most notable point is no body is asking for principle amount or interest. He has sold out his shop where he used to sell cement and T.M.T. for the treatment. He is willing to send his child to good college for quality education now. I think, it is late uncle.

When people asked Arjun Bhaiya, Why did you leave Delhi without informing Garrainjee? He replied simply, he visualized a similar situation for himself. If anything happens who will help? If during the process, if he dies who will take care of his wife and children. Then we asked then why did you go to Delhi? Why did go for medical test which resulted in spending huge amount? He has no answer!
