Others Wishes

There is no such thing as small dreams, dreams are always big. A small kid right now is thinking of becoming a cricketer on the other side of the world a 50-year-old man is dreaming of becoming an entrepreneur. As it has always been saying the sky is the limit. But to understand one’s aspirations is a really big task. This is a story of a chirpy, joyful girl who set out to achieve her goal by beating all the odds.

The year was 1995, professor Amit Mishra was beaming with joy as he was distributing sweets among his colleagues and other staff members. His colleagues knew the reason behind his big contagious smile that he had just become a father to a beautiful lovely daughter. Amit just couldn’t wait to bring his wife and daughter back to their loving nest. As being a father was a big responsibility Amit was scared a bit as to how he would be able to nurture her beautiful baby girl. But he dusted off those worries and started to begin the decorations of the grand welcome of his daughter. The next day his wife Madhu and their daughter returned from the hospital. Madhu was in awe to see what Amit had done with the entire house, she had never been happier. Now the biggest problem was in front of Amit and Madhu, what should they name their beautiful daughter. Some suggested Lakshmi, others suggested Kunti. Both Madhu and Amit were in a dilemma as the name suggestions were not at all satisfactory to them. Days became months but they were still confused about the name part. That same year Shahrukh Khan’s Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge was released and it had become a blockbuster film. Amit got an idea why don’t name their daughter Simran after the film’s main protagonist and Madhu too agreed on this. So finally after the months of turmoil, they named their daughter Simran. Simran was light of their eyes, whatever she did made them proud. In school, she was a straight A student and always on top of her class. Amit had big dreams for her, he wanted her to become an engineer. But this is life and whatever you wish doesn’t happen. Simran had a hidden talent, since school she was always into stage performances be it dancing, singing or dramatics. But her main forte was stand-up comedy. After school, she used to go to some local cafes to try out her gigs and she became quite successful. When her father got to know about this he wasn’t happy at all. He didn’t want her to pursue being a stand-up comedy artist as a full-time career. Simran knew her father was never going to agree to this so she started to concentrate more on her studies and preparing for the joint entrance for engineering.

                        

In the year 2013, Simran got admission to a very prestigious university in Mumbai and her father was very happy about it. Simran was excited and scared too as she was leaving her hometown and going to a completely different city. Her father told her that to embrace this new journey with courage and determination and prove to be the best in every situation. Keeping that in mind Simran went on her new journey. It rightfully said that Mumbai - is a city of dreams and Simran was on her way to fulfilling her father’s wishes. Though these dreams were not of hers, she was not upset about it, as she knew that her father would be really happy and proud of her. Upon reaching the university Simran was amazed, there was a humongous gate in front of her, waiting for her to enter and kick off her new journey. As it was a new environment for Simran she was a bit nervous as she knew that she was a fresher and the seniors were just waiting to grill her. One night when she was asleep in her dorm room a sudden bell rang there and she was shocked to the core. The seniors were having a meeting with all the freshers and were asked to introduce themselves and show their hidden talents. This type of culture was quite popular in all colleges and universities and Simran was aware of it. When one of the seniors turned to her and asked her to portray her hidden talent Simran just couldn’t hide it but gave her the best performance as a stand-up comedian. Her whole performance was applauded by everyone present there. Little did Simran know one of the seniors recorded her performance and posted it on social media channels. Her act became sensational and Simran became popular overnight. She was happy as it was her dream to become a stand-up comedian but reality hit her really hard as she remembered she was there to fulfil her father’s dream. So she decided again to give it up. There’s a saying, whatever happens, happens for a reason. Simran’s father saw her video on the social media channel, at first he was furious as to how she could betray him like this. But eventually, when his neighbours came to him and praised his daughter his rage turned into happiness and a sense of pride. Amit realized that he couldn’t force his dreams onto her beautiful and talented daughter. So he picked up his phone and gave a ring to Simran and congratulated her. Simran was astonished, but she was happy that her father realized and believed in her dreams. But as a daughter Simran also had a responsibility toward her parents. So she decided to complete her degree and along with pursuing her career in stand-up comedy as well. Soon Simran became a very popular stand-up comedian artist and then there was never looking back. We all have dreams but keeping faith and patience in oneself always helps in achieving them.
