Oh! The Handbag

Oh! The Handbag

I have a dear friend-Nalini. She has a penchant for designer handbags and clothes. In fact, she is my go-to person when I want to look beautiful as well as when I want to feel beautiful. More often than not, I am mesmerized by her obsession with fashion. Whether I like to follow it or not, even if I am unable to afford it, I listen to her generous information about the latest trends. She is absolutely fun to have around.

One day, we were walking to work. It started raining suddenly. Since it was the season of rainfall, we were prepared. I took out my umbrella. So did Nalini. To my surprise, I saw that she covered the handbag more than she protected herself. I did not say a word; we kept walking so as to get to the workplace fast.

After a few minutes, I saw that Nalini was totally drenched on one side. I asked her if she wanted to come closer so my umbrella could cover her one-side. She did not say a word. Nalini was lost in shielding her handbag from the fierce rain droplets. After all, she did mention to me that the handbag cost her a fortune and furthermore, it was brand new.

We reached the office and rushed to the washroom. Nalini finished wiping off all the droplets on her handbag before self-care. I saw her relieved only when she saw that the bag was intact. Like a good friend, I was happy for her.

Later in the day, I found Nalini quite worried. I asked her what the matter was. In my opinion, the handbag was indeed in perfect condition.

“What if it rains in the evening on our way back?” Nalini pleaded anxiously.

I thought for a few minutes.

“Repeat what you did in the morning,” I answered nonchalantly.

I realized one funny truth - You can be brutally honest only with your best friends. Nalini actually wasn't offended by my mean (although, not serious) answer where I asked her to get drenched again and save the bag.
