NEW YEARS EVE
NEW YEARS EVE
Here is the story with the names changed:
Arun, his wife Nalini, and their children Ajay, Suman, Disha, and Jiya were traveling in their car on December 31st when they were stopped at a police checkpost. Despite passing the breathalyzer test, they were detained to meet Officer Gupta's quota of catches.
Their phones and valuables were confiscated, and they were subjected to humiliation. Nalini's diamond necklace, a gift from Arun, was ripped from her neck, and her saree was torn, exposing her blouse. Nalini's hips were pinched by Officer Gupta, who leered at her with a twisted grin. Ajay tried to protest but was beaten on his hands by Officer Sharma.
As they waited at the checkpost, a detainee named Raj ogled at Nalini, making her feel uncomfortable. He whispered lewd comments and made gestures, making Nalini's skin crawl.
The next morning, they were told to cover their faces for a media photo shoot. Some detainees were released after paying bribes, but Arun couldn't afford to pay, so they were taken to the police station.
In the van, Raj continued to harass Nalini, touching her arm and making suggestive comments. Gupta egged him on, enjoying Nalini's discomfort.
At the station, they were given stale buns and made to squat on the dirty floor. Nalini was led away for her "processing", where Officer Sharma's eyes lingered on her body, making her feel like a specimen. She was asked invasive questions, including about her bra and underwear size, and made to undress in front of the officers.
Arun and Ajay were taken to separate rooms, their bodies exposed, their spirits broken. Gupta announced that the women would be detained for 4 days, with each day featuring a different woman. Nalini was returned to the entrance, where she saw Priya, a fellow detainee, being dragged away by Gupta, her clothes torn and her hair disheveled.
Nalini was the first to be taken, followed by Suman, Disha, and Jiya over the next three days. The family was forced to endure physical and emotional abuse, with Ajay recording videos for the officer's enjoyment.
After four days, they were released, but Gupta warned them to return in a week to collect their car, hinting at a longer detention. The story ends with the family leaving the station, shattered, humiliated, and exhausted, but determined to start anew after seeking justice.
