Maria Needed Maria

Maria was a young teen girl. She had many friends and a family of her mom and dad and a little brother. Even though she was surrounded by so many humans she still felt alone. She still felt as if she had no shoulder to cry on when she was troubled or stressed.

It was even more heart aching for her because she always tried to be there for others. She always wanted everyone around her to know that she would be there for them unlike how they weren’t there for her.

Yet even with her immense kindness and passion to care and love others, she never received it back. What was this all about? Why couldn’t she get back what she received? Who would finally care for her?

One day, Maria was very sad. She was in a cycle of melancholy these days and her never-ending sadness was per se perennial.

She was sitting on the small velvet chair in front of her dressing table, the large vanity mirror staring back at her or rather her own despondent reflection. She sighed and whispered the famous saying with her own twist, “mirror mirror on the wall, why does no one care about me at all?”

She stared back at herself with eyes filled with tears now but she was taken aback when she saw her lips turn into a smile. She wasn’t smiling though. She had a big frown.

“What the hell..”.

This new reflection pointed at herself. Technically her reflection was pointing at herself And then a melodious voice spoke out, quite similar to her own voice. “You, my dear. You are supposed to care”.

“Me? But, but Who are you? What’s going on?”.

The reflection smiled wider. “I am your Guardian angel.”

Maria was perplexed. Her guardian angel? This made no sense. “But you look like no angel..you look like me!”.

The said angel smiled even wider. “That’s the point. You are your own guardian angel.”

It took a minute for Maria to understand but then it dawned upon her, this heartwarming yet eye-opening realisation dawned upon her.

“If you have the passion to give love and support, Why deprive yourself of it? Rather You should be the first one to receive it.”

Maria understood.

She didn’t need anyone. She didn’t need anyone else’s shoulder to cry on. She didn’t need anyone to care or love.

She needed herself. She needed to become her own shoulder to cry on. She needed to take care of herself. She needed to love herself.

Maria just needed Maria. Only.
