Independence or In-dependence?

Independence or In-dependence?

Since my childhood, I have been taught India got its Independence on August 15, 1947. So here we are celebrating Independence day every year with renewed passion and patriotism. But a question is burning inside me for as long as I remember. Are we really independent?

I have my doubts and would never in my right mind, wager my bets on it. Since I was a child, I have imagined all the nations and island nations to be like children. Some kind, some rich, some smart, some deprived while others just hanging in there! But that's just my crazy childlike imagination. What's worse is People way beyond my physical or mental age with even crazier imaginations saying India is an 'Independent' country. Really, is it though?

India's Independence is just a major misconception in the mind of India's greats. We are never really Independent until the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer gap is filled. Approximately 1,500 people are said to have died in the Titanic. Reason being not enough lifeboats. In the same way, India being a hot spot during the Corona-virus pandemic barely has some lifeboats called Hospitals.

India being an androcentric country, the women have always been shamed on just everything. While the trans community is not even considered to be humans. India has yet many wars to win. Most of them being fought in our beliefs.

India in my vision is a huge bodied kid with normal-sized internal organs. Making it harder to breathe. This kid needs to grow its organs to match its body's size. This kid is a beautiful, kind heartened kid with some misfortunes as well. India throughout its lifetime is known to defy unimaginable odds and always rising above. Yet it is a long way for India to call itself truly Independent!
