Hating and Loving!

Harvey was a meagre lamb being chased down by four wolves, hungry wolves. They wanted to devour every fingerbreadth of his body; they wanted to tear him down.

Harvey was sprinting with a sense of purpose, trying to break away from the eyes of the wolves and reach the exit door at the far end of the hallway, but his doom had been sealed nevertheless. With a thud, Harvey was on the floor wriggling to get back up on his hinds, but the wolves had caught up and were licking their lips in decisiveness.

One of them firmly gripped Harvey’s right hand, someone else caught hold of his left; and they both dragged him in his sweat soaked tee to God knows where, the rest three wolves followed.

Harvey did his best to shear his vocal cords to let out a scream, at least a screech, but all he could manage was a sob, a sob for scope.

They had reached another hallway, this one dark and grungy with cardboard boxes all around. One of the wolves on his right side pushed Harvey against a wrinkled and wet wall and Harvey caught a glimpse of the assailant, he had a chiselled face with a crooked nose and piercing blue eyes that didn’t carry kind in them. Harvey, trying to break free from the clutches of this person tried to recall where he had seen him, and then it hit him, this guy was ‘Aman Singh’, one of the many friends ‘Nevan Abeijon’ carried around himself like a blanket.

Nevan and Harvey were like salt and pepper, completely different, and that got Harvey to be extremely irate about Nevan. Plain-sailingly Nevan was abundantly popular in school with other students, teachers and even the predisposed janitors. Looking at Nevan even in his baggy poncho, you’d get a voguish feeling and then some. Nevan’s life was quintessential. Far away from this statement was Harvey, who nobody cared to even glance at, at school Harvey didn’t exist, Harvey’s life was nowhere near perfect; and this reason exactly got Harvey to decide he despised Nevan, and this reason also got Harvey to decide that Nevan had planned this assault this very moment. Still and all, in these situations no one can predict the backstage. The person you think bad-hearted can perhaps be the one taking over your heart as the good...

Harvey was on the verge of tears now as Aman dug him into the wall with full compulsion, a hand on Harvey’s mouth, the other guys chuckled in the background as they saw Harvey cry, “Girl” they mocked him; and then, a bright blue light flashed in their direction. The assailants all gasped, they had picked this place for their direct action as they thought nobody could knowingly get here. Aman turned to face Harvey, still pinning him to the wall, “We’ll take care of you some other day, you and your rainbow crew!!” He spat out the words with disgust, and they all scuttled away before getting caught.

So, Aman Singh and his crew had a problem with his sexuality...? Harvey knew right from when he turned 13 that it would be difficult for him to come out to the world as gay, but he never imagined people would physically torment him because of it.

The flashlight got brighter as the person bearing it came closer, and Harvey suspired a long breath of relief; Harvey’s body ached, his head throbbed, and he wanted to get knocked off on his bed more than ever. The person behind the flashlight spoke up, he had a very adenoidal voice, and it sounded so much like ‘Nevan Abeijon’.

“Hello...?” The voice said, and Harvey gasped, it was Nevan! Harvey’s pulse rate shot up to a speed greater than before when he was being dragged by people who were perhaps once in juvie. If Nevan was at all behind this incursion, why did he sound and look so clueless behind that alluring face of his? Harvey needed to focus and not think about how handsome his nemesis was, he took a long breath, “It’s me Harvey...um, Harvey from chemistry class, you probably don’t know me...”

Nevan made an offended expression, “I know you.” He said, “Know you very well, I watch you every day as you walk down the hallway, watch you every day as you eat lunch in the cafeteria; you think nobody notices you Harvey, well they do!” He said this with such vigour, that Harvey almost fell back.

Harvey too shook to answer, stayed silent. “What are you doing here?” Nevan asked, “This is a restricted area and I thought I heard Aman’s voice and people laughing!” Harvey tried to look disoriented, “Isn’t Aman your friend...?” He asked. Nevan blinked fast before he said, “Not anymore, not after I found out he had something against the LGBTQ community. I’m gay, you know...” This was the second time he’d made Harvey gasp, he never in his whole wide world imagined Nevan gay, like himself...“Anything wrong?” Nevan asked. “No, not at all...in fact...um...” Harvey didn’t know how to say it, he gulped “I’m into guys too...I mean, I’m gay as well.” Nevan didn’t seem to sense the awkwardness, instead he asked, “Was that why Nevan was here, to mug you of your sexuality?!” Harvey could see fury in his eyes, dark red fury. “Yes...I think so.” Nevan groaned and stomped his feet, “Come on, let’s take you back to the dorms.” He ushered for Harvey whose legs were numb as hell, “Don’t worry princess, I won’t hurt you.” Nevan grinned and said.

Harvey turned red and without more hesitance let Nevan wrap his hands onto Harvey’s shoulders. They silently walked their way back like this, with Harvey constantly eyeing Nevan; Nevan had a model face, high cheekbones, full lips and large tufts of hair flying about. Harvey somehow felt at home with Nevan, the Nevan he considered an assailant of himself, falsely so. Nevan suddenly stopped, making Harvey lose balance, “Am I that pretty that you keep looking at me...?” He voiced. Harvey tried to find words, “I just...I’m embarrassed...I just want to say sorry...I mean... I thought you were behind all of this...I’m sorry.” Harvey sighed surprised at himself for saying all of that. Nevan’s face turned downcast, “I’m sorry too, for not telling you how much I feel for you, how much I love you...” Harvey’s mouth fell, The Nevan Abeijon loved him? “And from now on, I won’t let anything happen to you, to us!” And then Nevan smiled, and suddenly there were grooves around his mouth and dimples in his cheeks and his face was altered by them. He cupped his hands and took Harvey’s face in them, “Deal?” He asked, Harvey smiled back, the stars aligning for him. “Deal!” He repeated; and hand in hand they walked, determined to love in order to fight hate...!
