Once upon a time, there was a married couple who couldn't stand each other. Their days were filled with petty arguments and constant bickering. They were so lost in their conflicts that they barely noticed a neighboring couple, who seemed to be living in complete harmony, despite facing far greater struggles. This couple always laughed together and radiated happiness, even in difficult times.

Curious about the secret behind their happiness, the wife started observing them more closely. She noticed that the couple often visited a wise Guru. Intrigued, she thought to herself, "There must be something the Guru teaches them that helps them stay so peaceful and content." Unknown to her, her husband had the same thought. However, since the two had stopped communicating, neither of them shared their thoughts with each other.

One day, tired of her own unhappiness, the wife decided to visit the Guru. She poured out her frustrations, blaming her husband for all their problems. She described how he was irresponsible, insensitive, and harsh with his words.

The Guru listened patiently and then replied, "Two days ago, your husband came to me with similar complaints about you. He said you were sarcastic, careless, and constantly critical of him."

Upon hearing this, the wife’s anger flared. "So, he’s been talking behind my back? Now I see his true colors!" she exclaimed.

The Guru smiled calmly and said, "And what are you doing now? Aren’t you also speaking behind his back? The problem lies not in the complaints themselves but in the fact that both of you are quick to see the faults in each other while remaining blind to your own shortcomings. You expect love and respect from each other but are unwilling to give it first."

The wife fell silent, reflecting on the Guru’s words.

"Change your behavior," the Guru continued. "Start showing the love and kindness you expect from him. Instead of waiting for him to change, be the first to change. See what happens when you shift your focus from blame to understanding."

The wife returned home with a new perspective. Slowly, she began treating her husband with more patience and empathy. At first, it was difficult, but as days passed, her husband noticed the change and responded in kind. Their quarrels decreased, and they began to rediscover the joy that had once brought them together.

Soon, they, too, were spending their days laughing, much like the couple they had once envied. The secret wasn’t in mastering others, but in mastering themselves.
