Fighting For Freedom

Blood and tears were spilled. Lives were lost, families were broken and destruction was everywhere. Thousands of bodies lay in the battlefield while fighting for their motherland. He could hear the cheers of the victory camp, his ears pounding with the noise.

He watched as two doves flew gracefully across the overcast sky, carrying the message of peace throughout the world. What a cruel irony!

His mind drifted to his wife and child back home where they would be waiting for him to return; but not knowing that the last time that they saw him was the last time they would ever see him alive again.

Tears flowed freely down his blood-covered face as he thought about all the families in the world waiting expectantly for the news of those nameless people surrounding him, one-by-one letting out their last breath without ever getting to say goodbye to them one last time.

‘No,’ He thought, ‘I am not going to die in defeat.’

“Goodbye,” He said. His voice did not break,"I died fighting for freedom."

Those were his last words.
